The number one worry we hear before a phone upgrade: “Will we lose our number?” It’s a fair concern — your business number is on your vans, your website, your signage and in every customer’s phone. The good news: in almost all cases, you keep it.
What is number porting?
Number porting simply means moving your existing phone number from your old provider or line to your new phone system. Your customers keep dialling the same number; behind the scenes, it now rings on your new setup.
Does it work for VoIP and cloud systems?
Yes. Whether you’re moving to VoIP phone lines, a Cloud PBX, or replacing ISDN with SIP trunks, your numbers can almost always come with you — landline numbers and, where relevant, multiple numbers or ranges.
How the process works
- We check your numbers can be ported (rarely an issue).
- You approve the port and we handle the paperwork with the providers.
- We schedule the switch for a quiet time to avoid any disruption.
- On the day, your numbers move to the new system — usually with little or no downtime.
Anything to watch out for?
A couple of things: don’t cancel your old service before the port completes, and give a little lead time — porting isn’t instant. A good installer manages all of this for you. We do it as a standard part of every switch.
Why it matters for the switch-off
As the old network is retired, every business on old lines will move at some point. Knowing your number comes with you removes the biggest reason people put it off.
